Founded in 1952 along the lines of the Gospel Male Voice Choirs in England and Scotland, the Choir's motto is "Proclaiming Jesus no other Name". The Choir has been privileged to proclaim the good news of God's salvation through Christ Jesus in churches, public halls, nursing homes and even prisons. A typical program consists of ten choral items interspersed with solos, quartets and musical items, and a short gospel message from the chairman-speaker.
The Choir usually undertakes a trip to regional NSW once a year, and often joins with similar Choirs in Bundaberg, Brisbane, Melbourne and Geelong to present Festivals of Male Voice Praise in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne on a rotating basis. The 2005 Festival of Male Voice Praise was in Brisbane (to coincide with the Brisbane choir's 50th anniversary), and in 2006 was in Sydney and Newcastle. In 2012 it will again be in Sydney.
The Choir needs men who:-
- have personally accepted God's gracious gift of salvation through faith in Christ Jesus;
- desire to serve Christ Jesus in this form of evangelism;
- have a good ear for music and are able to sing in tune (and hold a tune);
- are able to meet on some Friday nights (7:30 - 9:30pm for practice) at Burwood Chapel, as well as attend some choir engagements during the year.
If you would like to join the Choir, or would like the Choir to present the gospel at the church you attend, please contact the Secretary, Mr David Gordon, by calling 0400 426 373 or by sending an E-mail to him.
